I feel like ET as a 35 year old woman with a passion for the web as a media, a service and a communications tool. ‘ET’ as in ‘ Extra terrestrial’ you know?
My Yahoo Themes:
That’s because when I go to Yahoo and see what they have on offer for me, i see under My Yahoo options:
Basics (weather icon) – News- Sports – Money – Health – Entertainment
Seems to me they’re only talking to men here.
I care didlywatts abouts Sports and Money (more accurately called: playing the stock game). I have very little leisure time as a mother so entertainment in the traditional sense is pretty limited. I might be interested in family or child focused entertainment options but I doubt Yahoo offers this.
I get my news from the radio to quickly know what’s going on. I have no time to spare reading about some monkey that got trapped in a car in Alabama. I download targeted podcasts for the news that really interests me.
As for health, well I eat well, exercize, and run around all over the place anyway with children, so I don’t need to know about the latest drug to help me lose that beer belly.
Maybe women’s health, or children’s health might be a little more on target?
Don’t get me wrong, I LIKE Yahoo, that’s why I point this out. I wish they’d realize there is a whole population out there they’re not addressing.
Yahoo Publisher Network Type of Site Listing:
Similarly, I go to the Yahoo Publisher network to see if the Frenchparents site can register to be a Beta tester. In the categories proposed to designate the site’s focus, here’s what i see:
Adult – duhhhhh. Cool it starts with ‘A’ cause it just happenned to be at the top of my mind as I made this category list… -
Automotive - . Cars are cool.
BtoB -
Career -
Community, social network - How vague a category can that be, unless you only have ONE type of social network in mind? What’s a social network for teenagers got to do with one for parents?
Education – Read: ‘ Post Secondary Education’..
Entertainment - The broad category including things like, errr, movies predominantly, preferably blockbusters.
Finance – Aha! The game that uses numbers! Me likin’ that…
quickly followed by:
Gambling and Games
Well, i’ll stop here. As you can see, Family is not one of the categories, nor is Children for that matter…
Yahoo people, a slightly more complex – and complete – view of the world might break down things a little more as such:
Education :
Primary, Secondary, College, Continuing Ed, Specialized
Entertainment:
By Age group – By type ( theater, movies,…) -
