Linkedin now offering statistics for its Groups

Linkedin offers pretty fancy looking stats for its groups, showing:

  • member growth,
  • member functions,
  • geographical presence,  in an easily accessible and graphically pleasing way.

Watch out Facebook Insights, the stats for Facebook Pages!

Here’s an example for one of my groups on Marketing 2.0.

Training sessions on social media marketing starting December 2011

I’m looking forward to welcoming local business owners and managers for two one-day training sessions on social media marketing December 8th and 15th, in Aix en Provence, and then tuesdays and Thursdays to be determined every month from then on.
The cost is 600 euros ( plus 19,6% sales tax) per day and its approved as a training program deductible from your annual training budget as a company in France. It will be held in French, although sessions in English can definitely be put together for a group of 5 minimum if needed.

We’ll look at:

  • Getting to know Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Viadeo, Google Plus, YouTube, DailyMotion.
  • How are they used, who are their members?
  • What can companies, professionals and institutions do to develop their visibility and engagement on these networks?
  • Examples of social media marketing in France and in the US.
  • Hands-on manipulation of a personal Facebook account, and of a Fan Page.

See our upcoming sessions on the Events tab of our San Francisco Consult- Marketing 2.0 Facebook Page (in French) here.

The State of the Web worldwide in July 2011

As I prepare training material for professionals seeking to better understand what the Web and, furthermore, the Web 2.0 means for their business, I seek out material to present the larger picture of the Internet today.

Comscore is an invaluable source of English speaking data, whereas Ipsos is useful for a French approach.

Internet Usage worldwide

These charts from a recent ComScore study show us how Asia-Pacific now accounts for the lion’s share (41%) of the Internet population in the world. In 1996, the US accounted for 64% of Internet population and now it represents 13% of the Internet using population. Doesn’t it put things in perspective?

Google Plus social network launches Brand Pages

Just a few months after launching Facebook rival Google+, Google now offers companies and non-profits the ability to have their own “pages” on the social network. This is part of a larger strategy by Google to make all our lives Googlizable…

The philosophy behind Google brand pages is slightly different from Facebook’s- duh- as you’d expect from a company with such a different world view as Google.

Here’s a post from November 8 from G+, as they like to call themselves, on how the new Pages work:

5 Cool Tips You Should Know About Google+ Pages

1. You Can +1 a Page to Show Support or Add Them to Your Circles

We know you love some brands and businesses. Others you may want to show a quick note of support, but not see all their updates. So just drop a little +1 and keep going, or add a page to any circle you want. You’re in control.

2. No Google+ Page Can Follow You Until You Follow Them

We want Google+ to be a place you love to share. Pages cannot circle you until you follow them first. Of course, if you are in their circles, they can share great deals, exclusive coupons, product tips and hangouts, but the relationship is yours to start.

3. In Fact, Google+ Pages Can’t Even Mention You Unless You’re Connected

That’s right. The +Google+ page can’t even say your name unless you’re following. No +mention spam.

4. Google+ Pages Automatically Unfollow You If You Unfollow Them

If you remove a Google+ Page from your circles, you are automatically removed from their circles. You always are in charge.

5. You Can Find Google+ Pages In Google Search

With a new feature we call Direct Connect, just type + followed by the brand name in Google Search, and you can see pages automatically display. Type +Pepsi to see Pepsi, and +Dell for Dell. It’s that easy.

We’re very excited about the great work we’ve seen with Google+ Pages so far. So many amazing companies are here, and you can see from all the work we’ve done that we want your experience on Google+ to remain a fantastic one.
